To join the AAFC as a Civilian Instructor of cadets, locate a squadron closest to you (here) and make contact to request the application forms and begin the application process.

Requirements To Become A Civilian Instructor

  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident who has applied for Australian citizenship;
  • Civilian Instructor applicants must be minimum 18 years of age;
  • Police check from the Australian Federal Police and a Working with Children check;
  • A signed copy of the AAFC Code of conduct;
  • Copy of birth certificate.

Selection process

An initial interview is required with the Squadron Commanding Officer to assess if you have the time and experience necessary to join the AAFC, if found suitable a Civilian and ADF support pack will be provided.

Australian Air Force Cadet Squadrons meet for approximately three hours one evening/day each week during school term. Squadrons also on occasion conduct training on weekends. The opportunity to take part in flying, field exercises; general service training and promotion courses are often available at a RAAF Base / Defence establishment during school holidays.
